In short: your voice is turned into text on your own laptop and is never uploaded. We don't sell your data or show ads. If you join the waitlist, we use your email only to send Niko updates, and you can leave any time.
This policy explains what information Niko AI ("Niko", "we", "us") handles when you use the Niko app for Windows and the website nikoai.in. Niko is made by Hetansh Haria in Ahmedabad, India. Questions or requests: hello@nikoai.in.
1. The website and waitlist
What we collect: the email address you type into the waitlist form, and the date you joined.
Why: to send you a welcome email and occasional updates about Niko (new features and big releases).
Where it's kept: on Cloudflare's servers. Emails are sent through Resend.
Leaving: reply "unsubscribe" to any email, or write to hello@nikoai.in, and we'll delete your email.
The website has no ads and uses no cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and doesn't track you across sites or identify you; we only see totals like page views and countries. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes basic technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and block attacks, and the page's fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. We don't store IP addresses.
2. Your voice
When you hold the talk key, Niko records audio only while the key is held. That audio is converted to text on your laptop by a speech model that runs locally, then discarded. Your audio is never sent to us or anyone else.
3. Your commands
Niko (free): the AI that understands your command runs on your laptop. Your commands stay on your device.
Niko Pro / cloud mode (when available): the text of your command (not your audio) is sent through our server to our AI provider, Anthropic, to get a smarter, faster answer. Our server does not store the text of your commands. Anthropic processes it under its own commercial terms.
4. Features that use the internet
Some features need to contact an outside service. Only the minimum needed is sent:
Spoken replies: the text of Niko's reply is sent to Microsoft's online speech service to create the voice. If you're offline, Niko uses the built-in Windows voice instead.
Looking things up (news, scores, "who is…"): your search words are sent to DuckDuckGo or Wikipedia.
Weather: the city name is sent to wttr.in.
Web search, websites and email drafts open in your own browser. Niko never sends an email for you; it opens a draft and you press Send.
5. Anonymous usage stats
To know how many people use Niko, the app can send an anonymous signal when it's installed and opened: a random install ID (a code that isn't linked to your name or email), the app version, and the date. Nothing you say or do in Niko is included. This is switched on in the welcome screen by default and you can untick it there, or set stats=off in Niko's settings.txt at any time.
6. What stays on your laptop
Your settings, the notes you ask Niko to remember, and your files all stay on your computer. Niko only opens, moves or renames files when you ask, and asks you to confirm before risky actions.
7. What we never do
Sell or rent your data.
Show ads or use your data for advertising.
Upload your audio, screenshots or files without you asking.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or the EU's GDPR), you can ask to see, correct or delete the data we hold about you, or withdraw consent. Email hello@nikoai.in and we'll reply within 30 days.
9. Children
If you're below the age at which you can agree to this policy in your country, please use Niko with a parent's or guardian's permission. A parent can ask us to delete a child's email at any time.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell waitlist members by email.
